Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 September 2026
This policy describes how Juris Study Buddy (“the App”, “we”) handles information for the website https://www.jurisstudybuddy.com and the Android / Windows clients that talk to the same service. The App is a study companion for law students and instructors. It is not an official school registrar, enrollment system, or gradebook.
1. Who this applies to
Students, class representatives, professors, and administrators who create an account or use the App. The App is for university-level learners and instructors, not for children under 13.
2. Information we collect
- Account data: name, email, password (stored as a hash, not plain text).
- Profile / class context: school, section, professor name as you type them, preferred subjects.
- Study data: enrollments, progress, personal case digests, practice attempts, preferences.
- Class-shared content: notes or digests you share with your section, and materials instructors publish for that section.
- Technical data: session tokens, offline cache on the device, approximate IP and request logs for security.
- Advertising data (free tier): on the website, Google AdSense may set cookies or similar identifiers. On Android builds with ads enabled, Google AdMob may use the device Advertising ID. See section 6.
Core study does not require access to photos, contacts, microphone, or precise GPS.
3. How we use information
- Create and secure your account; verify or activate learners.
- Provide class paths, lessons, digests, practice, schedules, and offline sync.
- Show content you share with classmates, and materials your instructors publish.
- Operate, secure, debug, and improve the service.
- On the free tier, show non-intrusive ads so the App can stay free (web AdSense; Android AdMob banners).
Study materials may be prepared offline and delivered through the App. Students are not required to send live AI prompts from the App to third-party AI providers for core study.
4. Legal bases
Where data-protection law applies, we rely on steps needed to provide the App (contract), legitimate interests in running a secure study service, and consent for optional sharing and for advertising cookies / Advertising ID where required.
5. Sharing
- Classmates / section: only what you share or what is published for your class.
- Instructors / class reps / admins: as needed to run sections (not for sale of student data).
- Hosting: our application host processes data as a processor.
- Google advertising: Google is an independent controller for AdSense (web) and AdMob (Android).
Publisher id
pub-7854194062286086. Google’s policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy and https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads. - Legal: if required by law or to protect rights and safety.
We do not sell your personal information.
6. Advertising
Free-tier use may show ads. Paid claim credits can grant stacked ad-free time on a logged-in account (see Support / Store in the App).
- Website: Google AdSense (client
ca-pub-7854194062286086). Authorized sellers are listed at https://www.jurisstudybuddy.com/ads.txt. Ads are intended as display / auto units. We do not run pop-unders or interstitials as first-party product ads. - Android: Google AdMob app id
ca-app-pub-7854194062286086~5893429818, standard banner unit only, on Home / Practice hub / Case hub, not on login, signup, live exam answering, or admin.
You can limit ads by:
- Using a browser or OS ads / tracking control (for example Limit Ad Tracking, or deleting AdSense cookies).
- Redeeming ad-free time in the App when points are available.
7. Storage, security, and transfers
Account and study data sit on our application servers and may be cached on your device for offline use. Production traffic uses HTTPS. Session tokens use the platform secure store where available. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Servers may be in regions used by the host.
8. Retention
We keep account and study data while the account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for backups, disputes, or legal requirements. Device caches clear when you uninstall the App or clear app data.
9. Your rights
- Update profile fields in the App where available.
- Delete your account — see Delete account.
- Stop optional sharing of digests with classmates in the App.
10. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13. If you believe we collected data from a child under 13, use the delete-account process and we will remove it when the request is verified.
11. Third-party materials
The App may open statutes, cases, or other links. Those sites have their own practices.
12. Changes
We may update this policy. We will change the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, give additional notice in the App or on this site when appropriate.
